Ive been reading the gfs tumblr this morning and saw a message an anon sent her about not liking poodles before she saw Effie.
Let me just tell you…you are NOT alone. I wasnt too much of a dog person about 8 months ago. I had a few dogs in the past and after the last one, my Siberian Husky Selby, got stolen from my back yard. I got a cat.
Sammy was my first man love and he is still my only man love that Ill ever need. I was SO used to how chill and easy cats were, I became disenchanted with ALL dogs. Puppies I liked, dogs I didnt unless they were trained and didnt jump all over my everything.
Anyways, I met Jess and Jess came with a little man called Tumble. The best Aussie to ever roam the planet. I started getting a little more used to dogs, still wasnt a super fan, but was becoming less annoyed.
Fastforward to the time Jess decided she wanted another dog. She was telling me breeds she dreamed of having and when she mentioned Standard Poodle as one, my immediate reaction was “Ugh god, absolutely not, I hate those things”
Then she explained to me STANDARD poodles are nothing like their mini relatives. I hate hate hate hate tiny dogs, ESPECIALLY tiny poodles. Due to childhood experience, every time I was around one, it was yippy and wired and hyper and just all around atrocious.
Anyways, I started looking up pictures and reading more about them and I was starting to come around. What sold me was apparently they are #2 on the list of smartest dog breeds. Then J sent me a pic of the puppies she went to go visit.
She sent a pic of a black one that I didnt like so she offered to take me to the breeders and let me see them. I walked in and they brought the puppies out and my heart literally imploded when I saw baby Effie try to make it 4 inches across the carpet.
She looked like a shiny teeny slug and I fell in love.
Fastforward again, 6 months later and I LOVE THE SHIT out of Standard Poodles. Effie is still a baby, and trust me she does ALOT of annoying puppy stuff, but shes so god damn smart. I cant wait for her to be full grown bc I KNOW shes gonna be the best dog ever. She already is. And she LOVES kids. Which is awesome :)
Moral to this LONG post was that, I was with ya. I thought poodles sucked, but since Effie, I have 100% changed my opinion from negative to positive.
